January 2012 - news
We are sad to lose our Chair, David Penrose, who has been an inspiration and steady hand on the tiller for the Festival since the beginning; though he assures us that he won't be far away, if the need arises. Sian Bamber, our treasurer, who stepped into the role at a crucial moment, leaves us, as does Jacquie Penrose and Tina Harrison, who all have other interests to pursue.
Nevertheless we are still up and running. Our core (Executive) committee currently comprises: Valerie Bird, June Halford, Gladys West, Jim Rodgers, who have organised several previous festivals, and Sue Dickinson, who worked as a production manager in the theatre for many years.
At the same time we are seeking new members to the Steering Group; so if you have time and an interest in all things literary, please get in touch.
We already have lots of exciting ideas for the future which we will be working on in the next few months. And we are always pleased to hear yours too.
You may have noticed that we are no longer asking for membership renewal or for new members to join us; the membership scheme has been dropped partly due to administrative pressure. The change was voted in at an EGM in November and will in no way change the nature of the Festival. We are very grateful to the contribution of past members which was entirely necessary to support us in the beginning. And if anyone is able to help future festivals via donation, we would, of course, be delighted. Please contact our secretary, June Halford, at havantlitfest@gmail.com or at Havant Literary Festival, PO Box 231, Havant, PO9 9DU
